Interpersonal Intelligence

This is one of the nine intelligences recognized in the Multiple Intelligence (MI) Theory, which was first introduced by Harvard University Professor Dr. Howard Gardner in 1983. Read my article Multiple Intelligence Theory for more on this.

Interpersonal Intelligence is the inner quality of individual that helps focus on the skills of understanding moods and desires of others. This is the basic quality of being a good friend and well-wisher. Every individual has unique set of qualities with a certain combination of all nine intelligences. The people with the strong presence of this intelligence are sensitive to temperament, motivation and mental conditions of the people. They are keen readers of others’ minds. Persons with strong Interpersonal Intelligence are good at reaching people and maintaining social bonding. They are eventually good at taking part in and utilzing social networks.

People with strong Interpersonal Intelligence are very good in:

Understanding moods of others

Making and keeping many Friends

Reading peoples’ mind

Helping others

Getting Involved with Social conditions

Working in groups and teams

Appreciating others’ accomplishments


Professionally, these people are usually Actor, Political Leader. Social Worker, Film Director, Development Worker, Doctor, Cook, Public Relation Officer, Media Reporter, Fashion Designer, Marketing Manager/Executive etc.

Nigella Lucy Lawson, an English journalist, broadcaster, television personality, gourmet, and food writer, born in 1960
